NFL: Minnesota Vikings’ field goal against the Cleveland Browns apparently prevented by camera cable

A curious scene unfolds during the Vikings’ game against the Browns. A camera cable apparently prevents a field goal. However, the NFL is spared any major trouble over the incident.

It’s not something you see every day: during the Cleveland Browns’ London game against the Minnesota Vikings, a stadium camera cable apparently prevented a field goal by the Vikings.

At least, that’s what can be seen in several videos that went viral on social media.

According to these videos, the flight path of the ball kicked by Vikings kicker Will Reichard from 51 yards changed shortly before reaching the goalposts.

However, the Minneapolis team was unable to enjoy the moment. The referees had not noticed that the ball had been deflected by the cable and therefore did not land between the goalposts.

Ultimately, however, this decision did not have a major impact on the final result. The Vikings later scored another touchdown and won the game 21-17.

The Vikings’ field goal should have been repeated

If the missed field goal had been game-changing, it would have been a bigger problem for the NFL.

The rules state: “If a ball hits a video board, guide wire, skycam, or other object during play, the down is repeated.” In this case, the field goal attempt should have been repeated. According to information from “Pro Football Talk,” the NFL decided that it was not clear that the ball had touched the cable.
