Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, center Aaron Brewer, and fullback Alec Ingold were voted offensive captains for the new season by the players. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, and edge rusher Bradley Chubb were selected for the defense.
Tagovailoa, Ingold, and Sieler have all been captains since last year. This is Tagovailoa’s fourth year as captain and Ingold’s third time in the role.
“I’m really excited about the whole election process this year,” said head coach Mike McDaniel. “This team was much more united, and the focus on these six guys was very clear – they received an overwhelming number of votes. Our goal was to give the captaincy to those who have earned it day in and day out. What impresses me most is that this team knows exactly who it wants to be led by.”
Not Hill anymore. He was not selected for the first time since his trade to the Dolphins in 2022.
The star receiver said in May that he didn’t deserve to be captain of the Dolphins. Hill was captain in each of his first three seasons in Miami, but said he needed to “prove himself” after the 2024 season, when his productivity declined.
This showed “Cheetah” to be understanding after he had abruptly declared at the end of the season that he wanted to leave the team – but he did not officially request a trade.
The 31-year-old apologized, but in order to regain the team’s trust, he will now have to do without the “C” on his chest.
