NFL – Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons: Historic deal – Decision on future made

The Dallas Cowboys had always ruled out a trade involving Micah Parsons. But on Thursday, everything suddenly happened very quickly.

There is finally a solution to the contract dispute between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons. And what a solution it is. It’s one that Texan fans are unlikely to like.

While there had been no movement in the negotiations for a new contract between the two parties, rumors emerged on Thursday that the Cowboys were suddenly open to a trade.

And while this rumor was slowly spreading, negotiations were successfully underway behind the scenes: Parsons will be traded to the Green Bay Packers one week before the start of the new NFL season. The Cowboys officially confirmed this late Thursday evening CEST.

The deal is a blockbuster move: according to NFL Media, Parsons will receive a four-year contract worth $188 million, $136 million of which is guaranteed. In return, the Cowboys will receive two first-round picks (2026 and 2027) and tackle Kenny Clark for the linebacker.

Parsons is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history at $47 million per year.

In his first four years wearing the Cowboys jersey, Parsons racked up 52.5 sacks in 63 appearances. That’s a record that puts him in an exclusive club: alongside Hall of Famer Reggie White, he is the only player in NFL history to have recorded at least twelve sacks in each of his first four seasons. His individual achievements underscore his exceptional status: Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, twice named All-Pro, and a Pro Bowler every year.

The Cowboys will play their opening game against Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles on the night of September 5.
