Jakob Johnson must once again fear for his place in the NFL. The Houston Texans have released the German fullback.
As reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans have released the German fullback as part of the NFL roster cuts.
NFL: Jakob Johnson misses out on Texans’ final roster
The franchise brought the 30-year-old to Texas at the start of the offseason. Johnson completed the entire preseason there, including training camp, and also played in the preseason. The Stuttgart native played in three games, appearing in 66 snaps.
Despite his impressive performances, it was not enough to make the final 53-man roster. However, as a veteran who has played more than four seasons in the NFL, Johnson does not have to go through the waiver wire after his release. He becomes a free agent immediately, allowing interested teams to sign him directly.
Will Jakob Johnson return to Houston?
However, there is also the possibility that he will remain in Houston and the team will bring him back via the practice squad.
After an unfortunate past season marked by multiple releases and re-signings with the New York Giants, the fullback’s future is once again uncertain.
