Shedeur Sanders was caught speeding twice last month. Now the Cleveland Browns have commented on the incidents.
Shedeur Sanders is having a wild start to his career. In April, he fell to the fifth round of the NFL Draft after many experts had predicted he would be a first-round pick. Since joining the Cleveland Browns, he has repeatedly made headlines off the field – and not always for the right reasons.
Within a very short time, Sanders exceeded several speed limits while driving. First, he drove 91 miles per hour, and shortly after that, he even drove 101 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. The speeding tickets were not only expensive, they also did not go down well with his new employer.
Browns GM Andrew Berry was clear about the incidents: “Not smart. It’s just not smart,” Berry said in a video statement to cleveland.com. “We’ve discussed this internally with him. He understands the consequences. It’s not just about him or how fast you can drive a car. It’s about putting other people in danger. If a deer jumps out in front of you or someone suddenly swerves out of the way, your reaction time is just too short at those speeds. It’s dangerous, and we don’t want our guys doing that.”
Shedeur Sanders: Impact on starting chances?
Head coach Kevin Stefanski also commented, emphasizing that this issue had been discussed with all rookies: “He knows this, and all our rookies know this: they need to be safe on the road, whether they’re behind the wheel or out in the city. It’s about making good decisions.”
Sanders is currently battling Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and rookie Dillon Gabriel for the starting job in training camp. Quarterback Deshaun Watson remains on the physically unable to perform list after his second Achilles tendon surgery and is unlikely to play in an NFL game this year.
It remains to be seen whether Sanders’ disciplinary issues will affect his chances in the battle for the starting role.
