Former Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones was defrauded of nearly $3 million by his financial advisor.
Former NFL star Reshad Jones reached the Pro Bowl twice in his career and earned a total of $58.1 million.
It has now emerged that around $2.58 million of this was stolen from the former Miami Dolphins safety. This was reported by Local 10 News
According to the report, his former financial advisor, Isaiah Williams, is said to have stolen around $1.58 million of the total amount. He worked for Merrill Lynch, a subsidiary of Bank of America, which is a leading provider of financial services to private and commercial customers in the US.
Jones’ money used by thief for child support
The money was transferred from Jones’ account via wire transfers and used by advisor Williams for first-class airline tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, nightclubs, jewelry, and child support. It was also used to pay for tax-free shopping trips to Mexico, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department added.
Around one million was also stolen by Octavia Monique Graham, whom Jones claims not to know. Graham has already turned herself in to the police and is now charged with two counts of money laundering and grand theft.
Professional athletes repeatedly exploited by companies
According to court records, Williams remains at large. Nevertheless, the investigation against him continues.
Jones’ lawyers released the following statement: “This is yet another example of a professional athlete being exploited by an asset management company he trusted.”
