NFL 2025 – Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brandon Coleman: The situation for German players

Two Germans have secured their places in the 2025 NFL season. The rest are fighting for a spot on the roster and good prospects in the league.

The NFL is still enjoying the calm before the storm. Before everything is decided, including for the Germans in the world’s best football league.

Then it’s time to prepare for the new season. Training camp, the preseason. For top stars like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Brandon Coleman, it will then be a matter of putting the finishing touches to their game and getting in sync with their teammates.

Players like Jakob Johnson, but also Leander Wiegand, Lenny Krieg, and Julius Welschof are fighting above all to make it into the 53-man roster.

But what is the current situation for the Germans in the NFL?

Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions)

The superstar among German players, but also one of the top stars in the NFL. He is an integral part of the Detroit Lions’ offense and has been a reliable target for quarterback Jared Goff for years.

In his four seasons in the NFL, the 25-year-old has racked up 4,851 yards and 33 touchdowns, and has also been selected for the Pro Bowl three times. He already extended his contract last year until 2028. With $120 million up for grabs, the youngest of the three St. Brown brothers is also one of the league’s top receivers in financial terms.

One thing is clear: after two years in the Super Bowl window, the Lions want to compete for the title again this season after previously being eliminated in the Championship Game and the Divisional Round.

It is therefore also clear that St. Brown will not only be in demand with his skills on the road to the coveted Super Bowl appearance, but will once again be a key figure.

Brandon Coleman (Washington Commanders)

Coleman was selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. With the 67th pick, the Commanders secured the services of the 6-foot-5, 315-pound giant. He immediately established himself as a reliable lineman in his first season.

Coleman’s play gave another top talent the time he needed to throw passes or run the ball himself: Jayden Daniels. The rookie quarterback owed much of his success to Coleman, who protected his playmaker’s blind side as left tackle.

He did so well and with such confidence that he established himself as a starter over the course of the season and was instrumental in the Commanders’ surprise run to the Championship Game. There, they were ultimately defeated by the eventual champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.

But the Commanders are likely to play a role in the playoff race again in 2025. Coleman will once again be an essential piece of the puzzle.
