Pittsburgh Steelers: Coach Mike Tomlin arouses interest from another NFL team

Mike Tomlin has been head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2007 and has won a Super Bowl once. Now another team is said to be interested in the coach.

The season is over for Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were clearly defeated by the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Wild Card Round on Saturday, losing 14-28.

The 52-year-old has been the head coach of the franchise since 2007. In the 18 seasons under his leadership, the Steelers have never had a negative record. On the other hand, they have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season.

Pittsburgh has reached the postseason in four of the past five seasons, but has always failed in the first game.

The Steelers are a franchise that generally stick with a coach for a long time. Predecessor Bill Cowher was head coach in Pittsburgh from 1992 to 2006. Chuck Noll was in charge even longer, from 1969 to 1991. And yet the question arises as to how long Tomlin will continue to coach this team.

Apparently, there is another franchise in the NFL that would like to sign him.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, a team recently approached the Steelers about Tomlin. However, the interested party was told that the coach has a no-trade clause in his contract.

According to Schefter, there are no signs that the franchise wants to part with Tomlin.

“Anything that would happen in Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin would only happen with his consent,” Schefter said of a potential trade for the coach.

“A loss like last night’s could push teams to explore the availability of Mike Tomlin. But Pittsburgh has given no indication that they want to part ways with Mike Tomlin,” Schefter said.

Pittsburgh Steelers are the “most patient franchise”

“This is the most patient franchise – not just in football, but perhaps in all of sports. When Bill Cowher struggled at the end and the fans in Pittsburgh wanted to get rid of him, the Rooneys stuck with him and he won another Super Bowl,” Schefter recalled.

And further: “There is no indication that this franchise wants to part with Mike Tomlin at the moment. But it is an organization that has to address some issues in the offseason.”

For example, it is unclear what the future holds for Russell Wilson and the other quarterbacks. Wilson has already commented on this.
