NFL – Buffalo Bills: MVP favorite Josh Allen probably played with a broken hand

Bills quarterback Josh Allen is considered the favorite for the MVP title, but he probably played most of the season with a broken hand.

Who will be Most Valuable Player? A discussion that arises year after year in the best football league in the world. This is also the case in the 2024 NFL season. In the race for the MVP trophy as the most valuable individual player, one favorite has emerged in recent weeks: Josh Allen, quarterback of the Buffalo Bills.

Recently, his former teammate Stefon Diggs spoke out in his favor. On “Good Morning Football,” the wide receiver, who was traded to the Houston Texans in April, stated: “He should definitely win. He’s done really well.” And that’s even with an injury!

According to “nfl.com”, the signal caller played large portions of the current season with a broken left hand. The 28-year-old sustained the injury in week one, when he was pushed by two players during a touchdown run in the game against the Cardinals and landed on his left hand. Although he celebrated afterwards, he also looked at his hand and shook it.

At the time, he said after the game that he was “okay” and would not miss any time. So, while it was known that he had sustained a hand injury – he was on the Bills’ injury report until after the team’s bye week in Week 12 – the nature and severity of the injury was not clear.

With a record of 11-3, the Bills have long since qualified for the playoffs and are one of the favorites to advance to the Super Bowl. Allen has played a major role in this, throwing for 25 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions. An achievement that seems even more impressive given his injury. Especially since it was supposed to be a rebuild year for the Bills after some well-known and expensive players left the team.

But the injury was probably not without problems for the quarterback. At 15.4 percent, the number of snaps under center, i.e. the snaps when the quarterback is directly behind the center, was relatively low. However, this did not change his success in the running game, with an average of 34.6 yards per game.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old is back to full health and will have to face the New England Patriots with the Bills on Sunday evening.

Incidentally, a survey by the “NFL Network” also showed that Allen has a good chance of being elected. 27 high-ranking executives within the league were surveyed, with 22 voting for the Bills playmaker.
