Any hope of a faster recovery was in vain. The already struggling Dallas Cowboys will have to do without Dak Prescott for the rest of the season. This was announced by owner Jerry Jones, who also talked about the surgery on his thigh.
No more Dak Prescott this season! The Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s hamstring injury requires surgery, making a comeback in the coming weeks impossible.
This was revealed by club owner Jerry Jones in an interview with the radio station “105.3 The Fan”. Prescott, who only a few weeks ago extended his contract by $240 million for four years, will therefore be operated on in New York on Wednesday.
Earlier, ESPN had already reported that the 31-year-old was planning an operation on his partially torn thigh muscle, pending the opinion of a further specialist. Now Jones said: “His prognosis is wonderful. It just means we won’t have him for the rest of the season.”
The Cowboys are said to have been of the opinion from the outset that it is better to treat the injury now than to let it heal on its own and suffer complications later. However, Jones said in a radio interview that Prescott actually wanted to avoid surgery.
The playmaker suffered the aforementioned thigh injury in Week 9 during the 21-27 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and he also suffers from a hand injury. Until then, the playmaker completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown. Backup Cooper Rush was then brought into the game for the veteran.
Prescott himself was still confident after the game that he would be back on the field the following week in the NFL. But in the 6-34 loss to division rivals the Philadelphia Eagles, he was forced to watch.
The Cowboys are in a difficult situation in terms of their season, having now lost four games in a row to sit at a disappointing 3-6 record and almost having to bury their hopes of making the playoffs.
Prescott will miss around half of the season for the second time in five years after breaking his ankle in Week 5 of 2020. He will end the current season with eight starts and 1,978 passing yards for 11 touchdowns, eight interceptions and 54 rushing yards for one touchdown.
