NFL – Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase suspends practice

Is contract drama brewing for the Cincinnati Bengals, too? Star receiver Ja’Marr Chase did not participate in practice on the second day of camp

On the second day of Cincinnati Bengals training camp, Ja’Marr Chase again did not participate in practice. However, neither the star receiver nor head coach Zac Taylor wanted to reveal the reasons for this.

“Ja’Marr and I have a plan. We communicate well,” Taylor told reporters on the sidelines of Bengals training camp. The head coach confirmed that the wide receiver is healthy, however.

The 24-year-old was present on the training field for the first two days of camp, but only stood on the sidelines without actively participating, reports “NBC Sports”.

Chase is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal and would now be eligible for an extension. In his first three NFL seasons, he recorded 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns.

This year, Chase will receive a base salary of 1.055 million dollars. Justin Jefferson, his teammate from college days, signed a record four-year, $140 million contract for wide receivers this offseason.

Bengals owner Mike Brown had already commented on Chase’s contract situation before the start of training camp, but tended to close the door on a contract extension.

“It’s probably not the right time to negotiate,” Brown said on “ESPN.” “The offseason is a better time for that, and we’ll try to focus on football now. “

It’s possible Chase just wants to make a statement at the start of training camp. But if the supposed training strike drags on, the Bengals will have to give serious thought to contract negotiations.
