Joe Burrow dreams of taking part in the 2028 Olympics, the year flag football will be part of the Olympic program for the first time
Can Joe Burrow call himself an Olympic champion in a few years? The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback dreams of competing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and would love to be part of the USA flag football team.
“I would really like to play for the Olympic flag football team,” said the 27-year-old on “Pardon My Take”. Flag football will be part of the Olympic program for the first time ever in four years.
For several years now, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allowed the hosts of the Summer Games to include sports in the program that are popular in their own country but are not a regular part of the Games.
In addition to flag football, baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse and squash were also included in the program for Los Angeles in this way. Flag football differs from regular tackle football in that tackles are not allowed.
This significantly reduces the risk of injury, which is why Burrow is probably hoping to receive clearance from his employer in four years’ time. And the first pick from the 2020 draft already has ideas about who could follow him
So Burrow is hoping to line up alongside his current Bengals teammate Ja’Marr Chase and his other former college teammate Justin Jefferson. “I think that would be really cool,” Burrow said.
