10,000 US dollars for the Rookie of the Year: The two former teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers unveil an explosive bet – but then row back.
For young and unconcerned rookies, the start of an NFL career can also hold less pleasant surprises. Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers now seem to know what the serious side of life feels like.
While Nabers had recently announced with great anticipation that there was a bet between him and Daniels, he has now been forced to back down. The New York Giants receiver has now told reporters that the bet cannot go ahead.
The reason for this is that the two rookies have learned that such bets are prohibited by the NFL. The regulations don’t even stop at friendly bets
Rookie bet planned for 10,000 US dollars
In college, Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers were teammates on the LSU Tigers. In the NFL Draft, both were picked in the top 10 – quarterback Daniels ended up with the Washington Commanders, wide receiver Nabers with the New York Giants.
As the rookies revealed in an interview on the podcast “All Facts No Brakes”, they made a bet with each other: If one of them is voted “Rookie of the Year”, the other must pay him 10,000 US dollars.
Nabers had already spoken about the bet a few days ago in an interview with former NFL pro Ryan Clark. “He wasn’t supposed to tell anyone,” Daniels said later, but then revealed the details of the bet: “Whoever loses has to pay – 10,000 dollars in cash.”
However, the first doubts were soon heard as to whether the bet could stand. It was not without reason that “ESPN” reported that the NFL could have a problem with it
The gambling rules for NFL players are very strict. According to the rules, it is forbidden to “place bets directly or through third parties on NFL games, practices or other league events”.
Fortunately, the budding NFL stars are prepared in advance for regulations such as these. At the rookie minicamp, the NFL debutants will also receive special training on gambling regulations. Daniels (May 9-11) and Nabers (May 10-12) are currently attending such a camp with their rookie colleagues and should soon be up to speed on the most important knowledge.
