The Super Bowl 2023 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles (38:35) offered some moments for the ages. That puts it in good company, as there have been scenes from time to time in previous contests that no fan will ever be able to get out of their head.
Best Super Bowl moment: Users see “Philly Special” in front
As of noon Tuesday at 1:40 p.m., votes had been cast 6941 times. The clear favourite: “Philly Special.” The play in which Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles caught a touchdown pass in the 2018 Super Bowl against the New England Patriots (41-33) received 37 percent of the votes.
Also on the podium were Julian Edelman’s absurd catch during the Patriots’ historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 Super Bowl (34-28 after overtime) with 19 per cent and Patrick Mahomes’ fabulous performance in the 2021 Super Bowl, in which his receivers let him down, with 11 per cent.
The Kansas City Chiefs lost 31-9 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two years ago, the last Super Bowl with Tom Brady on the field and the first ever won by the host.
Super Bowl moments: Butler interception makes it to fourth
Malcolm Butler’s crucial interception in the 2015 Super Bowl that secured the Patriots’ 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks, who were stopped short of the end zone, came in fourth with nine percent of the vote. Behind them came two more moments from Super Bowl LI: The last play of the Patriots’ comeback received seven per cent of the votes, the insane catch by Falcons star Julio Jones six per cent.
For four percent of the participants, Jacoby Jones’ kickoff return touchdown of 109 yards in his Baltimore Ravens’ 34:31 over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII was the greatest Super Bowl moment. Three percent voted for Percy Harvin’s 87-yard kickoff return touchdown the following year – it was the cherry on top of the cream pie in the Seahawks’ 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Same game, same voting result: three percent of the participants in the safety saw Peyton Manning’s first snap as the Super Bowl moment par excellence. In tenth place, with one per cent of the votes, was Ahmad Bradshaw’s decisive touchdown to give his New York Giants a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
