Richard Sherman: “Matthew Stafford doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame”

Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams prevailed over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. After years of no success in Detroit, Stafford now has a ring. But it’s still not enough for the Hall of Fame, according to Richard Sherman.

Munich – With the victory over the Cincinnati Benglas, Matthew Stafford has done it. After 13 years in the NFL, after 12 years with the Detroit Lions without a playoff win, the 34-year-old won the Super Bowl in his first season with the Los Angeles Rams.

He is also the quarterback who helped Cooper Kupp and Calvin Johnson to the most successful receiving yard seasons.

For many fans and experts, Stafford has now secured a place in the Hall of Fame. Richard Sherman, former star cornerback of the “Legion of Doom”, has a completely different opinion.

On Twitter, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pro said that, at least as of now, he doesn’t think Stafford belongs in the HOF: “I’ll talk about it on my podcast, but the bar for the HOF has gotten incredibly low. Almost like a participant trophy. Not an all-decade team. No all-pro. No MVP. A Pro Bowl. Not even MVP of the Super Bowl. No year he (Matthew Stafford; ed.) was one of the best. At least Matt Ryan has an MVP award.”

Sherman: “Most pass-friendly era in NFL “

Some of the 33-year-old’s followers disagreed, prompting Sherman to elaborate and underscore his point: “There’s no clear point that makes Stafford a Hall of Famer other than he’s playing in the most pass-friendly era in the NFL. Inflated stats make any QB who plays ten or more years in the NFL a Hall of Famer.”

He continued, “He didn’t do anything spectacular. It’s a summary of his career. He’s done well. But nothing more. He’s had a couple of ‘wow passes’ and a couple of passes that make you want to grab your head. Aaron Donald and Von Miller are the two Holl of Famers he should thank. “

Whether Stafford actually gets a spot in Canton at the end of his career, the next few years will tell. The 34-year-old still has a few years to show even his critics that he is a Hall of Famer. As of now, this award is certainly open to debate.
