Commissioner Goodell explains: then the NFL can think about an overseas team

For some time now, a possible NFL team overseas has been a topic of discussion. Now Commissioner Roger Goodell speaks out and offers hope

Currently, all 32 NFL teams are based in the United States. Whether it stays that way is always part of discussions. For Commissioner Roger Goodell, an overseas team is definitely not out of the question.

In an interview with NBC during the NFL opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions (20-21), he explained that there was a chance for the league to expand as soon as the logistics were sorted out.

“I’m not ruling anything out, I think it’s possible,” Goodell said. He added: “I think the debate we’ve always tried to work on is whether you can do it competitively and in a way that’s going to be fair not just for this team but for every team.”

The travel issue in particular is seen as a massive obstacle in the possible relocation of a team.

In 2007, the world’s best football league held its first International Series match at London’s Wembley Stadium. Since then, Mexico and Germany have also been added as host countries.

In the 2023 season, two games will be played in London and two in Frankfurt.

There have been rumours in the past that the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have competed annually in London since 2013, could settle in the UK. Club owner Shahid Khan also already emphasised the special connection.
