Washington Commanders: The Dan Snyder era is an indictment of the NFL

Dan Snyder is once again making negative headlines. That he was allowed to remain one of the NFL’s most powerful men for so long and is now leaving with a fat profit is an indictment of the league. One comment.

Dan Snyder is once again making negative headlines. This time the owner of the Washington Commanders is accused of misappropriating the franchise’s funds for his own private benefit – without informing his business partners and shareholders.

This is not really surprising. Snyder, and by extension his Commanders, have been synonymous with scandal and embarrassment for years. In recent years, Washington has become THE mess franchise of the NFL.

Washington Commanders don’t deserve the title as a laughingstock

This organization does not deserve the title of laughingstock. For all the episodes, some of which seem like action from a prank show, the scandals were too serious and the toxic handling of sensitive issues like sexism too severe.

Snyder wants to sell his NFL team. But the fact that he’s been allowed to produce one scandal after another for the otherwise PR-sensitive NFL for so long without any real consequences is an indictment.

Dan Snyder ends up making fat profits

If NFL owners do put a Snyder ouster on the agenda now, it would speak volumes for the priorities of this round of billionaires: moral lapses are readily overlooked, but when someone links his business partners, a line is crossed.

Snyder will sell Commanders and make a fortune with it – despite all the scandals. That’s what matters to him in the end – enabled and approved by the NFL. That leaves a stale taste and a stain on the image of the league.
