The timetable for the sale of Washington Commanders and possible buyers seem to be set
The sale of Washington Commanders appears to be imminent. According to Charles Gasparino of “FOX Business Network”, owners Dan and Tanya Snyder are expected to finalize the sale of the franchise in the coming weeks after Super Bowl LVII.
It was reported as early as last November that the franchise had hired Bank of America to help with future “potential transactions.” Snyder bought the team from Jack Kent Cook in May 1999 for $800 million. At the time, this was the largest purchase in sports history.
Since Snyder took over the team, however, there has been little sporting success, but all the more scandal off the field. In 2020, more than 40 women who were former employees of the team reported sexual harassment by Synder and other members of the organization.
Possible buyers: Jeff Bezos & Co.
Possible buyers of the Commanders include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, media mogul Byron Allen, who also bid for the Denver Broncos, and Josh Harris, who already owns the Philadelphia 76ers NBA team and the New Jersey Devils NHL team with the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment company.
