Seattle Seahawks in a nosedive: Even the fans are losing patience

The return of Russell Wilson did not give the Seattle Seahawks a boost. On the contrary: the quarterback is in a slump of form just like many other players. The understanding of the spectators is dwindling.

Seattle/Munich – What an unusual atmosphere in Seattle’s Lumen Field.

Seattle Seahawks fans, normally known for their vocal and unconditional support, lost patience.

Booing could be heard after Sunday’s 13-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Patience seems to have run out: The last three games were all lost. With a record of three wins and seven losses, their chances of making the playoffs are dwindling.

Russell Wilson: “It’s disappointing “

“It’s disappointing,” said a frustrated Russell Wilson, who is nonetheless striving for confidence. “I know every guy in the locker room has the intentions, the hope, the dream and the convictions that we’re going to get this situation fixed.”

If that is to succeed, the Seahawks have their work cut out for them between now and next week’s Monday Night Game against the Washington football team. After all, the weaknesses run through almost the entire team – starting with the quarterback.

After recovering from finger surgery, Wilson made a surprising return early in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, but didn’t lead his offense to a single point in a 17-0 loss. He also went without a touchdown pass in the loss to the Cardinals.

It’s only the third time in his long career that he hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass in two consecutive games. “We’ve been one of the best Red Zone teams in football. Today, unfortunately, it didn’t work out,” Wilson said.

In general, the Seahawks made many mistakes on the decisive plays. Only two of the ten third downs led to a new first attempt. Actually, Wilson’s strength is to reliably get the ball to his teammate on third downs. This season, his success rate is only 35 percent.

The logical question is: Is his lack of form related to the injury break? Has he possibly “developed rust” and not yet found his rhythm? Wilson unites: “I don’t think you can talk about rust when you see how well the long pass comes out of my hand.”

Anyway, he said, he doesn’t want to make excuses: “I’m not an excuse guy. I’m a guy that wants to figure out how to get this fixed and get better. “

Seahawks: weak passing game, below-average running game

Even so, the numbers speak for themselves: before his injury, Wilson had a strong quarterback rating of 120.42. In the two games after his return, that average is 59.9.

Also of concern, the Seahawks are averaging just 200.2 passing yards all season – fifth weakest in the league.

The offensive line offers little protection. 33 sacks have already been allowed. Only the Chicago Bears (36 sacks) and Baltimore Ravens (34 sacks) have had their own quarterback taken down more often.

However, other parts of the team have their problems as well. There’s the running game, for example. Only ten teams in the NFL average less than 100 rushing yards per game. The Seahawks are one of them with 98.4 yards.

In total, the Seahawks achieve an average gain of only 298.6 yards per game. Only the Chicago Bears (287.9) and Houston Texans (271.1) are worse.

Seattle: third-weakest pass defence in league

The defence also offers little in the way of security. The biggest problem: the pass defense. 279.6 passing yards allowed per game is the third weakest value in the league.

The only positive aspect is that the defence has allowed relatively few points. 20.9 points is enough for fifth place in the NFL.

But what good is that if your own offence, with 19.4 points, is even more harmless than the opposing offence?

For now, those involved don’t have much choice but to take refuge in holdout slogans. “We have to fight, we have to keep going,” says safety Jamal Adams, for example. “At the end of the day, we are professionals. We have a job to do and we have to keep fighting.”

Maybe then the Seahawks will get the actually loyal crowd back on their side.
