The Seattle Seahawks are looking to add two more quarterbacks to the roster. Geno Smith is expected to be one, the other spot is still completely open. Colin Kaepernick is probably not a candidate.
Munich/Seattle – Russell Wilson has left a big void with his departure from the Seattle Seahawks. The franchise is still in the process of filling it as best they can for 2022.
Drew Lock came to Seattle as part of the Wilson trade to the Denver Broncos, and Jacob Eason was also on the squad. Currently, the Seahawks are trying to convince Geno Smith to stay with them.
Pete Carroll hopes to sign Geno Smith
He had replaced Wilson in 2021 when he missed four games through injury. The 31-year-old rushed for 702 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, but three of the four games were lost.
Still, head coach Pete Carroll is hoping for a deal. “I think it would be a shame for him to miss this opportunity,” Carroll said. “He’s invested a lot with us. He knows our system best. He performed well when he got going last year,” said Carroll, who believes, “He’s not going to miss this opportunity. It’s just too good for him. “
With Smith, the Seahawks would have three quarterbacks, but Carroll and Co. aren’t done with that yet – they want a fourth man. “We’re firm believers that fourth man is going to be important for us in the long run,” Carroll said. “So we’re definitely still in the quarterback business.” After all, this year’s NFL draft is still coming up.
There are also some veterans who are still up for grabs, Carroll said, confirming again, “Yeah, we’re still looking. “
Colin Kaepernick: No more talks
Which, of course, leads to the question: Can this veteran be Colin Kaepernick?
“Does this kid deserve a second chance? I think so,” Carroll himself had fueled rumors, especially since the Seahawks invited Kaepernick to a workout in 2017.
Feedback on recent workouts by Kaepernick, who last played in an NFL game on 1 January 2017, has been positive, with five teams said to be interested. The Seahawks are apparently not among them, as Carroll acknowledged that an early, initial conversation with Kaepernick “didn’t pan out. “
