San Francisco 49ers: John Lynch won’t cut Jimmy Garoppolo – “He’s too good for that”

Jimmy Garoppolo’s situation with the San Francisco 49ers is deadlocked. Now general manager John Lynch spoke out about his situation and revealed some interesting details.

Munich/San Francisco – Is he staying or going? And if he goes, where to? That’s the question on everyone’s mind about Jimmy Garoppolo.

John Lynch, general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, provided some clarification on the status of negotiations with the 30-year-old at the annual meeting of all head coaches and general managers.

Cut Garoppolo? “I don’t see that happening. “

At the outset, Lynch ruled out the 49ers parting ways with Garoppolo without compensation. “No, I don’t see that happening,” Lynch said. “Jimmy’s too good a player for that. He’s either going to play for us or he’s going to play for somebody else.”

Although the 49ers never officially announced their intention to part ways with the two-time Super Bowl winner, it’s an open secret that Trey Lance is expected to be the starting quarterback come next season.

However, the vast majority of teams are already set with a starter at the playmaker position. Only the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers, as of now, are still without a solid starter.

Garoppolo’s shoulder surgery complicates trade

Lynch also denied a possible offer of two second-round picks for “Jimmy G” that has been written about in recent weeks. “We never got that far,” the 50-year-old revealed.

“The teams we were furthest along in negotiations with decided to go elsewhere because of the break he has to take,” Lynch said. Reportedly, “Jimmy G” will not be fully fit until the start of training camp.

Garoppolo will earn $25.5 million next season if the contract is not restructured.

The 49ers won’t have money problems, though, Lynch confirmed. The former backup to Tom Brady will cost around 27 million dollars against the cap in 2022.

If San Francisco can’t find a buyer for Garoppolo, both he and Trey Lance will remain. Whether there will then be an open battle for the starting job is still written in the stars.
