Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni on taunting penalty: “It’s on me”

Taunting is and remains a much-discussed topic in the NFL. Also in the game of the Philadelphia Eagles against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a penalty towards the end of the game causes a lot of talk. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, however, sees himself primarily responsible.

Munich – It was probably the taunting decision with the biggest consequences so far.

In the fourth quarter of the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philly’s Genard Avery was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after taunting Leonard Fournette following a tackle.

The flag ultimately helped the Bucs run down the clock on their final drive, clinching the game.

Sirianni doesn’t blame refs

Nick Sirianni, Head Coach of the Eagles, however, saw the blame mostly on himself and his players: “It’s on me first,” he explained after the game.

He said he had to do a better job at not putting players in situations where the refs had a chance to penalise them for taunting.

“I have to be better at that. We know we can’t wound ourselves. I know that. The players know that and we will keep working to do better,” he promised. “We have to do the right things and keep our composure. “

In his opinion, the referees were not to blame.

However, many fans saw it differently after the decision yesterday and failed to see any reason for a taunting flag. Discussions about the tightened rule are likely to continue throughout the season.
