Jordan Love is having an impressive season at quarterback for the Packers. His backup Sean Clifford is impressed
The Green Bay Packers have had a special season. After the departure of Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love was allowed to prove himself as starting quarterback for the first time – and did an excellent job.
After a bumpy start and one or two difficulties in between, the Cheeseheads became the youngest team in history to make the playoffs and celebrated a dominant victory against the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers also came close to a surprise in the Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers, but were narrowly defeated in the end.
Now backup quarterback Sean Clifford has spoken out and said he’s impressed with how much Love has improved in his first year as a starter.
“It’s been great to watch him. You’ve seen it in OTAs and training camp when he’s made spectacular plays. You think to yourself, ‘When this guy turns it up, he’s going to make a splash,'” he explained in an interview with “CBS”.
He continued: “You have to remember that it’s his first year as a regular, so you had to give him a little time. We all knew he was going to make a splash the moment he got going. Now he’s arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league. “
Clifford himself has also contributed to Love’s success. When asked how he helped him reach his level, the 25-year-old said: “I just listen to him no matter what he needs. I’ve met with Jordan to study extra videos, talk through our concepts, discuss development, whatever. Just always being there, being the best support possible.”
But not only that. The backup also tries to push Love on the field. “When I’m ready, that also spurs him on to get better and better. It’s a super healthy competition, a super healthy relationship.”
Clifford was selected by the Packers in the fifth round at No. 149 in the 2023 draft.
