NFL – Washington Commanders: Next renaming? Decision made

Four years ago, the NFL team from Washington changed its name to “Commanders”. Even if not everyone likes the rebranding, the old name won’t be coming back, according to owner Josh Harris

The D.C. team’s name change from Washington Redskins to Washington Commanders has received a mixed reception from the fanbase. American media reported on a rift that was created – even interest in the NFL team is said to have waned as a result of the name change.

After Josh Harris and his group of investors took over the team from Dan Snyder last year, some fans hoped that the old name “Redskins” could return.

According to the Washington Post, Harris has now put a definitive stop to these hopes: “We’ve made it very clear that the old name can’t return for obvious reasons. Right now, we’re focusing on things that unite the team around our football team and the city around our football team. The first goal is that we need to start winning football games.”

But according to a report from ESPN, that’s not necessarily Harris’ private opinion. “I have a lot of opinions [on the name], but I can’t talk about it,” he is quoted as saying

The Washington team dropped the name “Redskins” after various indigenous groups found it derogatory and racist.
