NFL – Seattle Seahawks: Starter surprisingly ends career – reasons unclear

With the retirement of center Connor Williams, the Seattle Seahawks lose one of their key players on the O-Line. The reason for this is neither a trade nor a serious injury – the center ends his career in the middle of the season.

Shock news for the Seattle Seahawks! After starting all nine games of the current NFL season, 27-year-old Connor Williams has unexpectedly ended his career. The center’s departure leaves a hole in the franchise’s offensive line that will be difficult to fill, with the team still fighting for a playoff spot in the NFC West.

Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed rumors of a retirement on Friday: “Connor decided earlier this week to retire. Personal reasons. We respect that. We wish him the best. We have to look ahead.”

A decision that is probably final. “I don’t think so,” Macdonald said of Williams’ potential comeback. “We respect his wishes and keep all reasons and conversations private for obvious reasons. We wish him the best.”

The Seahawks star was picked in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 after playing college football in Texas.

Great responsibility for inexperienced successor

Williams will be replaced at center by Olu Oluwatimi, who will be in his second NFL year in 2024. Head coach Macdonald also announced this.

“We are excited for his [chance], just like for all the other young players who have gotten their chance,” the HC said about the 2023 fifth-round pick from Michigan. ‘Olu is right where he needs to be. He’s worked his ass off and gotten a great opportunity. We are excited to see him play.’
