Eagles center Cam Jurgens reveals in an interview the severity of his injury in the 2024 Super Bowl season, leaving him wondering about his fitness to play.
The fact that NFL players repeatedly play with significant injuries is anything but news. But Cam Jurgens has now made it clear just how serious some injuries really are.
In the podcast “Bussin’ With The Boys”, the Philadelphia Eagles center described the back injury he suffered during the 2024 season.
A piece of his disc “came off and wrapped around my sciatic nerve, so it felt like my leg was suffocating,” the NFL pro stated.
And further: “It was hard to walk. I don’t know how I was able to play. It was by far the worst month of my life, but also the best month of my life because we won the Super Bowl.”
Jurgens had not missed a single game in the playoffs, but was visibly in pain. He underwent surgery in 2025, but struggled with problems afterwards.
Eagles center Jurgens doesn’t want to stop for a long time
He played 15 games last season, including the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. But improvement is in sight: “It takes a good year to recover from that. I’m starting to feel really good.“
By the way, although the serious injury caused Jurgens to think ”a little bit“ about the length of his career, the 26-year-old didn’t hint at quitting anytime soon.
”I love football and I want to play as long as I can and hopefully just keep playing in Philly. There aren’t many better places to play football than with the Eagles,“ said the center, who succeeded franchise legend Jason Kelce with the Birds.
He added: ”It would just be nice to go through a few contracts. I don’t know. We’ll decide that year by year. Right now I’m playing, and I’m going to play as long as I can.”
In April 2025, he signed a four-year contract worth 68 million US dollars.
