Brandon Graham reveals after the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Los Angeles Rams that his season is over. It could also have been the last game of his long career.
The Philadelphia Eagles were actually in a celebratory mood. With the 37-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams, they managed their seventh straight win, and thanks to a 9-2 record, the division win ahead of the faltering Washington Commanders seems a formality.
Saquon Barkley’s gala performance made a strong case for him to be considered for the MVP award. However, Brandon Graham put a real spoke in the Birds’ wheel. The veteran told reporters in the locker room that his season is over prematurely.
According to him, he tore his already injured triceps. At first, the 36-year-old thought it was just the tendonitis in his elbow that had been bothering him for a while, but an examination on the sidelines revealed the full extent.
“I called my wife and gave her the news. The kids were crying,” the emotional Eagles legend explained to ESPN. ”But at the end of the day, it is what it is. There’s no point in crying about it.”
Meanwhile, “NBC” quotes Graham describing the scene: “It was a passing play. The running back hit me in the arm and I didn’t think anything of it – because I was struggling with my triceps anyway. Just pushing people around will give you a slight tendonitis. But this time was different.”
Eagles without Graham: Hurts and Bakley emotional
Head Coach Nick Sirianni, who described Graham as one of the best players he has ever coached, was brief when it came to the bad news: “We have to see where we stand. Keep the hope high and look ahead.”
Jalen Hurts went to Graham during the game when the news of the injury broke and the defensive end had to watch his teammates from the sidelines. He took the opportunity to talk to him at length.
“It was about me being there for him,” the quarterback reported. ‘It’s very unfortunate, first of all for him as a person, but also for him as a teammate. A guy who has made himself popular in this franchise and has always tried to improve and teach the younger guys who have come along.’ Graham was always about being the best teammate possible and serving everyone, he said.
Barkley also expressed his emotions. “I only got to know him briefly as a teammate, but it feels like I’ve known him my whole life,” said the star running back. “He’s the reason I was able to find my way so quickly – he and a lot of other people.”
He also emphasized the energy and passion that Graham brings to the Eagles and to Philadelphia.
Graham out injured: Is his career now over?
Whether Graham will do this again on the pitch is questionable. Actually, the 15th NFL season should be his last. Is the veteran now having second thoughts? “If I’m going to say goodbye like this, then I’ve given everything I’ve got,” he clarified.
Now he wants to let it all sink in and think about his future: “I’m not there yet.” But he will continue to support the team and enjoy watching it: “Because we have a special team now and it’s time for some people to take the next step.”
And further: “I’m happy with where we are. And even though I had to come off today, I’m happy with how I played. I couldn’t ask for more.”
