Although Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby has been anything but on target this season, his head coach Matt LaFleur has now backed him up. For Crosby, there is a job guarantee.
Munich/Green Bay – Actually, it is traditionally the Minnesota Vikings who have problems with the kickers. In the 34:31 against the Green Bay Packers, however, it was Mason Crosby, placekicker of the Cheeseheads, who missed precious once on this day.
From 31 yards out, Crosby missed a ball. That’s two yards shorter than an extra point. A mistake that kickers in the NFL are not allowed to make.
Despite accuracy issues: LaFleur gives Crosby job guarantee
Over all, Crosby is playing the second worst season of his now 15-year career. Only 65 percent of his kicks flew between the sticks this season.
Still, there was no finger-pointing from head coach Matt LaFleur: “It’s never just one player alone,” LaFleur said at a presser Monday. “It goes from the snap to the hold to the kick. We have to improve the whole process.”
“If I didn’t have confidence in Mason, I wouldn’t have sent him out there for a 54-yard try, which he did,” the 42-year-old continued.
Asked if there were thoughts of replacing the Packers’ longtime kicker, LaFleur said only: “Absolutely not.” With that, he gave the 37-year-old a job guarantee.
