NFL: New York Giants Hit by Unbelievable Injury Woes in Preseason

The New York Giants have been plagued by unbelievable injury woes this offseason. This is already the third player to apparently suffer the same horrific injury during preseason.

The injury woes at the New York Giants are now reaching crazy proportions.

As reported by “ESPN,” Gunner Olszewski apparently suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice on Friday.

This would make the wide receiver the third player on the franchise to suffer this serious injury during the preseason.

Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris suffered a torn Achilles tendon during an indoor practice last week, while cornerback and undrafted free agent Thaddeus Dixon had already suffered the same injury earlier in the offseason.

New York Giants: Coach Harbaugh provides details on Olszewski’s injury

“It was a sort of change of direction without contact on the field,” explained Head Coach John Harbaugh: “That was very disappointing.”

According to the report, the veteran wide receiver and returner went down toward the end of practice and immediately grabbed his right leg.

As he was carried off the field on a stretcher, he reportedly clenched his fist in frustration. Further examinations are expected to provide clarity.

New York Giants: Olszewski extended his contract in the offseason

Olszewski played in 16 games last season, including one as a starter. In his only start, in Week 18 against the Dallas Cowboys, the 29-year-old recorded eight catches for 102 yards.

The Giants re-signed the veteran this offseason to a one-year contract worth $1.4 million. In 2019, Olszewski signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. In 2022, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he has been playing for the Giants since 2023.

Olszewski was originally expected to serve as a returner this season and provide depth to the receiving corps. The Giants are currently running out of receivers. Malik Nabers (knee issues) and Darius Slayton (core muscle issues) are still recovering from their injuries.

Early in the offseason, “Big Blue” therefore expressed interest in bringing back Odell Beckham Jr.
