NFL – New York Giants and Dexter Lawrence II: Tissue cut?

Will there be a trade now? The talks between the New York Giants and Dexter Lawrence II have probably been broken off.

The New York Giants and Dexter Lawrence II are probably going their separate ways.

As reported by the “NFL Network”, both parties have reached an “impasse” in contract negotiations. The “New York Daily News” reported shortly afterwards that talks had broken off.

Now there should be a solution around next week’s draft, with the Giants ideally receiving a corresponding value in return for a trade of the defensive tackle. And Lawrence would then have to be given a new contract by his new team.

Lawrence had already demanded a trade at the beginning of April and has so far opted out of the voluntary offseason program. The Giants, on the other hand, had emphasized that they actually wanted to keep him.

Both sides had already tried to negotiate a new contract in the past two offseasons.

New York Giants: interested parties for Lawrence

Lawrence’s contract runs for another two years and he would receive around 20 million dollars in 2026. By comparison, the highest-paid defensive tackle is Chris Jones, who gets $31.7 million per year with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 28-year-old Lawrence, who was selected 17th overall by the Giants in the 2019 draft, has 30.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one interception in his career. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times and named Second-Team All-Pro twice. However, his 2025 season was disappointing with half a sack and eight quarterback hits.

There are said to be several interested parties, including the Cincinnati Bengals, the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
