The New York Giants will continue to rely on coach Joe Judge and quarterback Daniel Jones, according to ESPN. However, general manager Dave Gettleman could leave.
Munich/New York – The New York Giants will make their umpteenth new start in 2022. Even if it is a little smaller this time. Because in the upheaval they continue to trust in coach Joe Judge and quarterback Daniel Jones. ESPN reports.
Judge has been the Giants’ coach since 2020, and after a 6-10 season, the Giants will miss the playoffs in 2021 as well, with the team currently sitting at 4-10. The last time the Giants made the postseason was in 2016, which was also the last time they had a positive record.
Daniel Jones: Not yet the franchise quarterback
Jones was selected sixth overall in the 2019 draft, but has yet to provide sustained proof that he is indeed the franchise quarterback the Giants want. In 37 games as a starter, he has a 12-for-25 record, throwing for 8,398 total yards, 45 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
He has been injured in his neck since Week 13 and will miss the rest of the season as well.
ESPN further reports that talks are expected to take place with franchise officials in the coming weeks about what went wrong in recent seasons. Judge is expected to play a key role in the talks.
There may be one personnel consequence, however: According to ESPN, general manager Dave Gettleman could quit after four seasons. He has not been able to build a team that can compete for the playoffs through trades or the draft.
