Two NFL teams are introducing new co-owners – including former NBA and soccer stars. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have been given the green light to sell shares.
The Buffalo Bills officially introduced ten new co-owners on Wednesday.
Among them are prominent names from the world of sports: former NBA stars Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady now also own minority stakes. Former footballer Jozy Altidore is also among the new co-owners.
In addition, there are six new investors from the business and finance sectors, as well as the investment firm Arctos. The ten new co-owners all have non-controlling minority stakes.
This is the first time in the history of the franchise that minority owners have been accepted. The NFL approved the entry at its meeting in Dallas on Wednesday.
NBA team owners join Miami Dolphins
There is also movement among the owners of the Miami Dolphins. And here, too, NBA players are getting in on the act: As the Dolphins announced, in addition to the Ares fund, the managing directors of the Brooklyn Nets, Joe Tsai and Oliver Weisberg, are also acquiring shares. Ares will get a 10 percent stake, while Tsai and Weisberg will hold 3 percent.
And according to reports by ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, among others, the Philadelphia Eagles have also received permission from the NFL to sell shares in the franchise.
According to the reports, eight percent of the shares in the franchise are going to two investors.
