NFL – Jakob Johnson and his odyssey with the New York Giants: Next bitter turnaround?

Jakob Johnson’s odyssey with the New York Giants continues and now apparently holds the next bitter turning point for the German

Jakob Johnson has already played a whopping 67 games in the NFL since 2019, in 34 of which he was on the pitch from the start.

He began his career in the best football league in the world with the New England Patriots. Born in Stuttgart, he played 37 games in three years for the team from Foxborough and even scored a touchdown in 2020.

The fullback signed a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2022 season, playing 30 times in two seasons. His contract in the gambling metropolis finally ended at the end of the past season.

Johnson was without a team for a large part of free agency before the good news from a German NFL perspective became public on August 16: The New York Giants have signed Johnson, so his sixth NFL year is secured – or so one would think. This was followed by a lot of back and forth, which may well have caused confusion.

Johnson finally made the 53-man roster on August 29. Center Austin Schlottmann was injured, and his spot on the roster went to Johnson. “He took a knock and will be out for four weeks – probably even more. That’s why we made this move,” explained Head Coach Brian Daboll.
