NFL: Insurance fraud? Super Bowl winner rejects accusations

Ex-NFL star Alshon Jeffery is arrested for insurance fraud. The Super Bowl winner has since been released – and denies the allegations.

Alshon Jeffery won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles almost ten years ago, but he currently has to deal with a completely different issue. The US portal “TMZ” recently reported that the wide receiver had been arrested for insurance fraud.

The “Philadelphia Inquirer” has since substantiated the allegations and wrote that Jeffery was allegedly involved in a car accident, but that his insurance had expired.

After the accident, the athlete is said to have taken out a new insurance policy and backdated the accident date in order to collect insurance benefits.

The 36-year-old’s management, EAG Sports Management, has since denied the allegations to the magazine and stated that they are “unfounded”. The situation was “a misunderstanding and nothing more”.

Jeffery faces prison sentence or fine

The problem: Jeffery did not appear in court as planned, which led to a warrant for his arrest. The 36-year-old was taken to jail around 8 a.m. last Wednesday and released after posting bail in the amount of $25,000.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 23.

Under California law, the charge of insurance fraud is considered a felony and can be punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of twice the amount of the fraud.

Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles

Jeffery played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks and was named an All-American selection in 2010. He was drafted in the second round by the Chicago Bears in 2012.

He won Super Bowl LII with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 and finished his career in 2020. South Carolina has not issued his back number to another player since 2023.
