NFL: Gronkowski may need to defend WWE title after touchdown

Returning Gronkowski may have to defend his WWE “24/7” title at a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game in the NFL.

Wrestling on the football field? Returnee Rob Gronkowski may be forced to defend his 24/7 WWE title at a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game in the NFL. According to the rules of the wrestling organisation, the tight end has the duty to defend the title “at any time and any place”.

“He could celebrate a touchdown pass from Tom Brady…anytime, anywhere,” the WWE wrote in a statement to ESPN. According to the rules, only one referee from the leading wrestling league needed to be present. Gronkowski had conquered the “24/7” belt at Wrestlemania a few weeks ago in a colourful outfit, and on Tuesday he returned to the NFL after a year’s break.

“Gronk” was traded by the New England Patriots, with whom the 30-year-old had won three Super Bowl rings, to Tampa, where he will once again play with his long-time quarterback and good buddy Tom Brady.
