NFL: Eric Bieniemy becomes new running back coach of the Chicago Bears

Eric Bieniemy once turned Patrick Mahomes into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. After a year in college, he is now returning to the professional league.

Eric Bieniemy lasted just under a year in college football after leaving the NFL.

Now the 55-year-old is returning to the professional league. As NFL insider Jonathan Jones of “CBS” reports, Bieniemy will be the running back coach of the Chicago Bears.

Bieniemy, who was part of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff between 2013 and 2022 and won the Super Bowl with them twice, was also involved in the rise of Patrick Mahomes to one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

In 2018, he was promoted by head coach Andy Reid to offensive coordinator, promptly ensuring that the Chiefs covered the most yards per game and scored the most points in the regular season.

Mahomes passed 5,000 yards and scored 50 touchdowns that season, becoming only the second player in NFL history to do so after Peyton Manning.

In 2022, Bieniemy joined the Washington Commanders before being hired by UCLA just a year later. He was dismissed as offensive coordinator there at the end of last year.

However, he didn’t have to wait long for a job.
