NFL – Dallas Cowboys: Middle finger instead of thumbs up – Jerry Jones reacts to heavy fine

Billionaire team owner Jerry Jones has to pay a fine of $250,000 after his obscene gesture at the Dallas Cowboys’ NFL game. He appears to accept the penalty.
Jerry Jones is to pay $250,000. And the billionaire owner of the Dallas Cowboys will probably do so. According to ESPN, he will not contest the fine imposed by the NFL for an obscene gesture during the 37-22 win against the New York Jets.

In an interview with radio station 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, he said he wanted to hold further talks before making a final decision. However, according to ESPN, he is satisfied that fans throughout the NFL know how much he appreciates them. And that the money will go to a good cause to help people in need.

The 82-year-old Cowboys boss was filmed giving the middle finger to the stands after the victory against the Jets.

Curiously, Jones later claimed that the whole thing had been a misunderstanding.

NFL: Jerry Jones explains the middle finger scandal

“I actually wanted to give a thumbs up,” he said. “It was right after our last touchdown, and we were all excited. I just made the wrong hand gesture.”

He assured: “If you want, you can call it an accident. I mean it.”

A video of the incident quickly spread on social media. Jones insisted there was no hostile intent. “It was quickly cleared up,” said the billionaire, who bought the Cowboys in 1989.

Dallas Cowboys: Jones started the dynasty of the 90s

Jones is considered one of the most colorful NFL team owners. His direct manner and his great influence on sporting decisions regularly make headlines. The Cowboys, three-time Super Bowl winners in the 1990s, have been waiting for another title since 1996.

This season, the Cowboys have a 2-2-1 record after Week 5. This puts them in third place in the NFC East.

Incidentally, Jones is not the first team owner to misbehave. Last year, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000. He had thrown a drink at Jacksonville Jaguars fans. Bud Adams, the late owner of the Tennessee Titans, had to pay $250,000 in 2009 for celebrating a victory over the Buffalo Bills with an obscene gesture.
