NFL: Chicago Bears – Seahawks blow as a symbol of another messed-up season

The Chicago Bears have once again underperformed against the Seattle Seahawks. The bare numbers support another forgettable season.

The 3-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks seems to be the next low point of the season for the Chicago Bears.

The Bears’ NFL season didn’t start too badly. After six games, the franchise had four wins and two losses. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t play the stars from the sky, but with a total of nine touchdowns and five interceptions, he showed solid performances.

Chicago’s luck ran into a rough patch, or rather a major rough patch, in week eight against the Washington Commanders. The Bears lost by a narrow margin of 15:18 after a “Hail Mary” – and have not won a single game since.

Caleb Williams is disappointed and gets no help

121 passing yards, 37 rushing yards, no passing touchdown and an interception… those were the bare numbers for Caleb Williams in the embarrassing 3-6 loss to the Seahawks.

It’s not the first time this year that the first pick of the past draft has disappointed. From week eight to eleven, the 23-year-old did not throw a touchdown in four consecutive games – in a total of 126 pass attempts.

In addition, the rookie is hardly protected by his O-line. In 16 games, Williams was sacked 67 times. A horrible number!

He has already lost 459 yards as a result and is on track to set a new record. Randall Cunningham still holds this record: in 1986, he lost 489 yards to opposing pass rushers.

Chicago Bears: What is the plan, anyway?

But it’s not just on the field that the Chicago Bears are looking bad. The front office is also causing more questions than answers.

For the first time in franchise history, a coach was fired before the end of the season, with Matt Eberfluss leaving at the end of November. Although a separation seemed inevitable, many fans were surprised by the timing.

Interim coach Thomas Brown has not really been able to make a case for himself since then. Rather, the Bears seem to be looking for a “big solution” in the offseason.

Chicago Bears: Will there be a turnaround in the summer?

Where there’s shadow, there’s light! Or is there? Chicago Bears fans have traditionally been sorely tried, but they could expect a lot more joy as early as next season.

The 2025 team will hardly have anything to do with the current team. With a new coach, decent draft capital and cap space, Chicago could go on the offensive in the summer.

If Caleb Williams continues to develop by eliminating mistakes and realizing his potential, the Bears could rise from the NFL basement in the next few years. Maybe.
