Chris Godwin extended his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the offseason. In an interview with “The Athletic,” he revealed that he turned down a lot of money to do so.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ preseason preparations are in full swing. Wide receiver Chris Godwin is still on board. The 29-year-old extended his contract this offseason.

Godwin is now entering his ninth season as a Buccaneers player. In recent months, however, his future at Tampa Bay had been up in the air.

NFL: Patriots offered Godwin a better contract

In an interview with “The Athletic,” the wide receiver hinted that he turned down several more lucrative offers.

According to Godwin, the Patriots dug deep into their pockets. In New England, he could have signed a contract that would have earned him around $30 million a year for several seasons.

But Godwin decided against the higher-paying offer and chose to stay where he belongs, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Why Godwin stayed with the Buccaneers

“The Buccaneers are my home and the perfect place for me,” Godwin is quoted as saying.

To stay at home, he signed a three-year deal that could earn him up to $66 million.

However, Godwin also had offers from other teams on the table, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Patriots.
