The future of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with the San Francisco 49ers has apparently been decided.
Brandon Aiyuk will apparently remain with the San Francisco 49ers.
As “ESPN” insider Adam Schefter reports, the franchise is not expected to trade the wide receiver by Tuesday. The date is crucial because a $22.85 million bonus in the player’s contract takes effect on April 1.
Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the 49ers last year. The bonus will be due if he is still on the team’s roster on Tuesday.
Accordingly, it is expected that the 27-year-old will spend the 2025 season in San Francisco after receiving the bonus.
Aiyuk’s 2024 season was cut short due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament last October. He only had 25 catches for 374 yards and no touchdowns.
In the 2023 season, the pass receiver had 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. The “Niners” selected Aiyuk in the first round of the 2020 draft at position 25.
This will likely prevent the franchise from losing another member of the receiving corps, after Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders this offseason.
