Rookie kicker Blake Grupe of the New Orleans Saints gave his team the win in the first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a field goal shortly before the end and had a memorable evening – in every way.
Thanks in part to rookie kicker Blake Grupe’s field goal in the closing seconds, the New Orleans Saints held on for a 26-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in their first preseason game.
The 24-year-old hit a 31-yard field goal with the clock running out for the cheering victory and had a memorable night in his first NFL preseason game – in every sense of the word.
“Step 1: Get questioned by security when you walk onto the field because you don’t have proper accreditation.
Step 2: Score the game-winning field goal.
Step 3: Get stopped by security on the way to the players’ tunnel because they think you’re a fan,” the youngster wrote on “Twitter.”
Step 1: get questioned walking onto the field pregame for not having credentials
Step 2: hit a game winner
Step 3: get stopped by security thinking I was a fan when trying to walk out the player exit
Stay humble. Thankful. Great team win! @Saints WHODAT

New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr with good performance
Head Coach Dennis Allen was happy after the game: “Wins in the preseason are important for me as well. That’s why I’m happy that we were able to win the game. I’m happy for Grupe that he made the field goal.
In addition to the kicker, quarterback Derek Carr also made his Saints debut. The rookie from the Las Vegas Raiders connected on six of his eight pass attempts and scored a touchdown to end the drive.
Jameis Winston and rookie Jake Haener took over after that, both throwing for over 100 yards and a touchdown pass each.
