Will the Los Angeles Rams lose their superstar Aaron Donald or not? At the Super Bowl parade in L.A., a statement from the superstar is causing frenzied cheers – including from head coach Sean McVay.
Los Angeles/Munich – Will Aaron Donald resign or not? Shortly before the Super Bowl, US media reported that the Los Angeles Rams defensive star would almost certainly want to end his career if he wins. At the Rams’ title parade, however, the 30-year-old has now given his team and the fans hope that he will stay.
On a makeshift stage in Los Angeles, head coach Sean McVay tried to elicit a commitment from the defensive tackle: “Run it back”, McVay shouted to his top performer. And the Super Bowl match-winner didn’t sound so reluctant anymore.
Aaron Donald: Statement causes jubilation
“We built a super team and we can bring the super team back,” Donald said, prompting loud cheers from McVay as well. “Why wouldn’t we actually do it again? We can be Super Bowl champions again!”
Immediately after the Super Bowl win, farewell still resonated in Donald’s words. “I’ve been fortunate and privileged to play at a high level for eight years. I’m just enjoying this moment right now. I’m just living in this moment right now,” he said in a shower of confetti at SoFi Stadium. Donald’s contract with the Rams runs through the end of the 2024 season.
“Run it back” chants
“Run it back” chants were ubiquitous at the Rams’ Super Bowl parade. Probably also as a reaction to the perceived threat of the superstar-laden team falling apart in the face of expensive and expiring contracts and a lack of high draft picks. There are also rumours surrounding McVay himself that he wants to end his coaching career at the age of 36 for personal reasons.
