Los Angeles Rams can hope for comeback of running back Cam Akers

Cam Akers is working hard for his return to the NFL turf. The Los Angeles Rams running back suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the offseason but could return before the end of the season. The Rams are hoping the big talent will make a comeback in a possible playoff appearance.

Los Angeles/Munich – It was the shock news of the offseason for the Los Angeles Rams: In July, running back Cam Akers tore his Achilles tendon. But the 22-year-old could still celebrate his comeback in the NFL this season.

The Rams announced that Akers may be back for a possible playoff appearance. “I don’t want to be arrogant, but if we make the playoffs, we suspect Cam will be available,” head coach Sean McVay told “The Athletic. “

“He’s been running at 80 per cent of his body weight at 10 miles per hour pretty effortlessly,” McVay expressed his excitement at the progress of his injured player.

Rams fully on playoff course

And the Los Angeles franchise can indeed have high hopes of making the playoffs. After seven games, they have only one loss on the West Coast. In the NFC West, they are topped only by the undefeated Arizona Cardinals. The chances that Akers could make his comeback this season are therefore anything but bad.

“If we can get him back, it’s an incredible asset to our team,” McVay said of Akers’ potential return. Last year’s second-round pick put together a strong first NFL year.

He led the Rams with 145 carries for 625 yards as a rookie. He was also projected to be his team’s No. 1 rusher this season. But then Akers injured himself in a private practice session.

The great running back talent could now celebrate his comeback sooner than expected, perhaps even with good prospects of making the really big throw. With a fit Akers, the Rams’ chances of making the Super Bowl would at least not diminish – on the contrary.
