Kyler Murray: Advisor promotes long-term contract in statement – proposal sent to Cardinals

Everything now indicates that Kyler Murray’s future lies with the Arizona Cardinals. The quarterback’s agent is going all out for his protege – including a lengthy statement.

Munich – Now it is clear that Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals have the same goal: a long and successful cooperation.

A few days after club owner Michael Bidwill showed his colours in the personnel matter, the quarterback’s camp followed suit. In the person of his agent Erik Burkhardt.

In a statement distributed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, two important goals are named: According to the statement, the first-overall pick of the 2019 draft wants to be the Cardinals’ quarterback for years to come and win the Super Bowl with the team.

Rumours of Murray departure likely fade

Rumours had recently surfaced that the Glendale team was expecting more from Murray, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The 24-year-old deleted all posts related to the Cards on his Instagram account shortly after, fuelling speculation of a departure.

From now on, the only thing that may be discussed is the numbers that will be written into the new contract. Burkhardt, however, stressed how proud Murray was that the team had developed so positively since his arrival.

Only playoff game clearly lost

Along with him, Kliff Kingsbury joined the Cardinals with an even record in regular-season games so far. The only playoff game, however, was a clear 11:34 loss to the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round last season.

For Burkhardt, however, it has been one success story so far, as he points to the “extremely challenging circumstances” in what he calls “the toughest division in football”, the NFC West with the Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. He said Arizona was the only NFL team to improve by at least three wins in each of the past three years.

Murray adviser refers to proposal on new contract

Further, the player’s adviser touts offensively, “He has delivered and exceeded all reasonable expectations, being named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and named to two consecutive Pro Bowls in the hugely competitive and quarterback-laden NFC.”

Burkhardt stressed that Murray believed he and the Cardinals would need stability to consistently compete for the title and win the Super Bowl. He said a detailed contract proposal had been submitted to the club to express the desire to work together for a long time.

Murray adviser demands action from Cardinals

Murray’s primary concerns are: financial security, an alignment with the current quarterback market, a lower cap hit for 2022 and 2023 so the team can retain deserving teammates and sign free agents, and – above all – a commitment from the Cardinals that Murray’s previously stated primary goals are theirs as well.

Burkhardt clearly highlighted the phrase: “Actions speak louder than words in this fast-moving business. “

“Words in this business are quickly dismissed and ephemeral “

With that, the Murray advisor passes the ball to the team: “Now it’s simply up to the Cardinals to decide whether they favor their rapidly improving, 24-year-old, already two-time Pro Bowl quarterback who led the organization from three wins before his arrival to 11 wins and its first playoff appearance in five years, or whether they’d rather focus financially elsewhere and continue to just talk about worrying about Kyler’s future as their quarterback.”

Quasi as a warning, he lets follow, “Unfortunately, every player, coach or person in charge in the NFL knows (or at least should know) that words and hypothetical contract promises are quickly dismissed and fleeting in this business.” Murray said he is hopeful that the Cardinals will continue to rely on him in the future and that he can prove his worth.

So far, the playmaker has laid 70 touchdowns to 36 interceptions in 47 appearances. On the ground, he reached the end zone 20 times.
