Jalen Hurts: Are the Philadelphia Eagles planning to use him as a running back?

The fact that the Philadelphia Eagles chose quarterback Jalen Hurts for their second-round pick in this year’s draft caused a great deal of astonishment in the franchise environment. But apparently the Eagles are pursuing a clear plan with Hurts – but not as signal callers.

There are quite a few Philadelphia Eagles fans who are still shaking their heads over the fact that their franchise used the two-round pick in this year’s draft for Jalen Hurts, a quarterback. After all, they have Carson Wentz, only 27 years old and, above all, $125 (!) million.

So it’s clear that Hurts will only be used if Wentz gets injured. Or is it? According to Mike Garafolo of the “NFL Network”, the Eagles have other, quite interesting plans with their new rookie – and not only that they might want to imitate the Saints model with two ever-changing quarterbacks (Drew Brees/Taysom Hill) with Wentz and Hurts starting next season.

“I know we’re talking mainly about a role like Taysom Hill’s in the New Orleans Saints,” Garafolo says according to “cbssports.com”. “But Jalen Hurts will play his very own, unique role in Philadelphia. He will definitely be on the pitch as a rookie next season, and the Eagles hope that this will be in a different position than that of quarterback.”

“Hurts could do his part as a running back.”
Garafolo reveals that “a source in the Eagles environment told me that Hurts could do his part as a running back. They believe in his strength and that his ability would easily allow him to hold this position”.

So whether we really see Hurts ploughing the field and through the ranks with Wentz next season remains to be seen. It would certainly be interesting.
