Houston Texans: Joe Mixon – the puzzling case

The Houston Texans’ running game is sorely missing the injured Joe Mixon. The playoff contenders should have had news about his recovery by now, but Nick Caserio has admitted that even the Texans are at a loss.

If there’s one thing the Houston Texans need right now, it’s a player like Joe Mixon.

After a poor start to the NFL season with three consecutive losses, the Texans are now back in the playoff race with a 5-5 record. But their running game is struggling: 107 rushing yards per game and a total of 5 rushing touchdowns so far are below average for the league.

Former Pro Bowler Mixon is sorely missed: Last season, the running back racked up 1,016 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. But then he suffered a foot injury in the offseason that has kept him sidelined for the past 11 weeks. Head coach Nick Caserio announced at the start of the season that there would certainly be news about a Mixon comeback “after a few weeks.” But there is still uncertainty in Houston.

Nick Caserio: Still “no clarity” on Mixon’s comeback

On “Sports Radio 610,” Caserio was asked about the radio silence surrounding Mixon: “It’s not that I want to avoid the question, it’s just a very unclear situation. Joe is working on it. There have been times when he has made progress and other times when his recovery has stagnated,“ explained the head coach: ”The season is slowly progressing, but I don’t want to raise any expectations in any way.“

Instead, Caserio made the bitter announcement: ”A month ago, I said we would know more in three or four weeks. But I don’t see that we have any more clarity at the moment.“

However, the Texans coach emphasized that this was not a criticism in any way, but ”the reality of the situation.”

Mixon sustained his foot injury at the start of training camp. At the time, however, he was placed on the list for non-football-related injuries by the Texans.

There is still no precise information about the nature of the 29-year-old’s injury or how he sustained it.

The only certainty is that the wait for Mixon continues.
