Green Bay Packers praise ‘maturation’ of quarterback Jordan Love

Jordan Love is looking ahead to his third season as Aaron Rodgers’ backup. He showed his potential in the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs – his coaches liked it.

Kansas City – After the preseason game at the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur praised his quarterback Jordan Love.

The backup to star QB Aaron Rodgers completed 16 of his 26 passes for 148 yards. LaFleur: “He showed a lot of resilience. That shows the maturation process he’s taken over the last couple of years.”

The Packers’ offense did find the game a bit of a struggle with Love. But after the Kansas City Chiefs kept the Packers’ drive alive on a 3rd down attempt via facemask penalty, Jordan Love proved his potential.

Love completed seven of ten passes for 95 yards from that point on, spreading the balls to six different receivers and accounting for ten points.

“Those drives put everything together. The plays came off and we took advantage of third downs. We kept moving the ball. That felt good,” said Love, who was picked 26th overall by the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Head coach LaFleur likes Love’s reaction

“There wasn’t really much open for him at first. He was under some pressure,” LaFleur assessed. “But one thing I loved about it was that he showed the right reaction after the game didn’t start the way he wanted. It’s all about how you react.”

The fact that his final play of the game ended with an interception, which was picked off by Bryan Cook, wouldn’t diminish the overall positive impression.

In live action, LaFleur said he would have been “not unhappy with the decision” by Love. He would have thought about that throw himself on the sidelines, which was actually intended for tight end Alize Mack.

Love, on the other hand, is self-critical: “I wish I had thrown the ball to his back shoulder or taken a shorter throw.” But in the end, he says, those are exactly the plays he can learn from.

Danny Etling took over the offense in the second half of the game, completing 10 of his 13 passes for 97 yards, but couldn’t fabricate any points, giving the Chiefs a 17-10 win.
