For Watson trade? Atlanta Falcons postpone roster bonus of quarterback Matt Ryan

The Atlanta Falcons are apparently trying everything to increase their chances of a trade of star quarterback Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. The franchise is pushing back the due date for veteran Matt Ryan’s roster bonus.

Munich/Atlanta – The Atlanta Falcons have bought quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans more time to make a decision about his future.

According to consistent media reports, the franchise is one of the only two teams other than the New Orleans Saints with a chance to acquire the 26-year-old’s services.

Adam Schefter of “ESPN” reports that the Falcons have postponed the payment of the roster bonus of 7.5 million dollars originally due on Friday for their franchise quarterback Matt Ryan through a contract adjustment.

Ryan’s bonus is now not due until next Tuesday. That means he can be cut from the squad by 9 p.m. German time Monday to avoid the payment.

Atlanta Falcons: Watson decision leads to change of plans

The current actions of Atlanta officials make it clear that the original plan to continue to be led onto the field by veteran Ryan has changed in recent days with the developments surrounding Texans star Watson.

Still, the scarf between player and franchise has not been cut, he said. “Pro Football Talk” reports the 36-year-old’s willingness to continue working with the Falcons in the future. The franchise is also said to want to keep Ryan if they do not get Watson.

In the coming hours and days, the next act in the big shake-up of star quarterbacks could be imminent.
