Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot reveals: “Want to draft a quarterback”

After the departure of Matt Ryan, a new quarterback era is dawning in Atlanta. With Marcus Mariota, the successor would be ready, but the general manager also has his eye on the draft.

Munich/Atlanta – It was a moderate tremor that went through Atlanta this offseason.

Matt Ryan, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons since 2008, was sent away by the franchise that drafted him and with whom he reached the Super Bowl. Ryan’s path led him to the Indianapolis Colts via trade.

The new club management signed Marcus Mariota as a replacement. But whether the former No. 2 pick will also become a starter is still up in the air. Also because the Falcons want to get a new quarterback in the draft, as new general manager Terry Fontenot now revealed.

Falcons want new quarterback

Talking to “ESPN” Fontenot said, “We’re not going to reveal what we’re doing with our eighth pick, but we want to get a quarterback in this draft. We want to strengthen out wide at that position. “

Currently, the Falcons have only Feleipe Franks on the roster besides Mariota, who is entering his second year and threw an interception with his only NFL pass to date.

“We took a good look at this year’s quarterback class,” Fontenot said. In addition, the Falcons had a presence at Pro Days for top quarterbacks Malik Willis (Liberty), Kenny Pickett (Pitt) and Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati), among others.

The Falcons have five picks in the first three rounds.
