Detroit Lions continue to rely on head coach Campbell

Despite criticism following their bitter exit in the play-off semi-finals of the National Football League (NFL), the Detroit Lions will continue to rely on head coach Dan Campbell. The club of German-American Amon-Ra St. Brown has extended the contract with the 47-year-old until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Detroit, led by wide receiver St. Brown, fell just short to the San Francisco 49ers in the championship round (31:34), in part because Campbell twice let a fourth attempt go by instead of going for a field goal. “I don’t regret the decisions,” said the coach at the time.

Campbell is allowed to continue, just like general manager Brad Holmes, whose contract was also extended until 2028. “They have been the driving force behind the rebuilding of our team and the success we have had. Continuity will continue to be the key to our success going forward,” said Lions principal owner Sheila Hamp.

Former tight end Campbell has been head coach of the Lions since January 2021. Last season, he made the play-offs for the first time with Detroit.
